Name: Raul Midón
Date: November 17, 2018
Time: 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM MST
Event Description:
With the New York Times calling Raul Midón a “one-man band who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus," this blind GRAMMY-nominated multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter will bring his vision of music to Chandler Center for the Arts on Saturday, November 17, at 7:30 p.m. Along with releasing 10 studio albums as a solo artist, Midón – dubbed “an eclectic adventurist” by People magazine – has collaborated with such musical icons as Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers, as well as contributed to recordings by Queen Latifah, Snoop Dogg and the soundtrack to Spike Lee’s She Hate Me. He is winning the world over with a fanbase that stretches from San Francisco to India, Amsterdam to Tokyo. A native of New Mexico who was educated in the jazz program of the University of Miami, Midón will showcase his signature combination of silky voice and percussive guitar as he performs hits from his Bad Ass & Blind release, an album that earned him his first GRAMMY nomination for “Best Jazz Vocal Performance.” Midón’s guitar playing is syncopated with a flamenco-and jazz-infused bass, harmony, and melody. He has also perfected his improvisational mouth-horn technique creating a “bebop trumpet” solo with his lips.
