Event Description:
Explore the diverse stories of Arizona’s Army National Guard. Young O’odham and Maricopa Indian men helped originate the National Guard as scouts against the Apache Indians in the late 1860s. In the early 1900s, future Tempe constable and Civil Rights leader, Cresencio “Chris” Sigala, protected the new state’s border. Turning to contemporary times, Rose Mattie deployed to Iraq two times and then served in an elite all-women’s team with the Green Berets in Afghanistan.
