About Congressman Greg Stanton

Congressman Greg Stanton is a proven champion for Arizona families. As Mayor of Phoenix from 2012–2018, he didn’t just manage growth, he reshaped the city’s economy around innovation and trade, creating thousands of quality jobs and driving some of the strongest wage growth in the nation.

In his work for the city, he forged bipartisan coalitions to deliver major investments in bioscience and higher education, supported small businesses, and earned national recognition for Phoenix’s leadership on LGBTQ+ equality. He also won voters’ support for his bold public transportation plan, securing funding to massively expand light rail, speed up bus service, and modernize thousands of miles of roadways in the decades to come.

In Congress, Rep. Stanton has focused on Arizona’s water future, investing in transit,  lowering costs for working families, and building out the state's 21st-century economy. He is the co-founder of the Extreme Heat Caucus and currently serves on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

In 2025, Rep. Stanton was named the Most Effective Democrat on Transportation Policy by the Center for Effective Lawmaking. He was also recognized as 2025's Elected Leader of the Year by the AZ AFL-CIO for his steadfast support for working families and advocacy for policies that promote workers’ rights.

Prior to serving as Mayor, Rep. Stanton spent nine years on the Phoenix City Council and served as Arizona’s Deputy Attorney General. He graduated from Marquette University on a Harry S. Truman Scholarship and earned a degree in law from the University of Michigan. He is a proud husband and father of two children back home in Arizona.
